Illustrated Discussion - The Passing of Time

Possible Approaches to Explore -

- Age and Decay - I would perhaps explore peoples ages like Tom Hussey or may explore the growing of plants or something similar to show the element of how things change as time passes.
-Day and Night - This would be a more simplistic way to show the passing of time and I could use the work of Richard Silver as inspiration.
- Long exposure - I would use a slow shutter speed to show the different movements and also perhaps give a ghostly effect, similar to Alexey Titarenko's work.
- Movement - I would explore movement and how movements happens in a set amount of time as well as trying to capture different frames of movement and combining them into one to show the movement which occurs during a set amount of time. For this, I would look at the work of Eadweard Muybridge.

Possible Photographers to Explore -

Alexey Titarenko

Alexey Titarenko would be a good photographer to look at if I was to explore long exposure and movement combined as this is what he focuses on in his images. I like his work and could also use it for inspiration if I was to look at the ghostly element associated with the topic. I also like how, due to the long exposure, the people are fluid like. In addition, I like the black and white colour schemes in his work as it gives the images an element of mystery which therefore makes them more interesting to the audience. Below shows some examples of his work.

Eadweard Muybridge

Eadweard Muybridge's work would be useful as inspiration if I were to experiment and explore movements for the topic of the passing of time. I like how the images are all still but are combined together to show a sort of motion. I like this idea of the combined images as they are simplistic yet very effective. Below shows some examples of his work.

Richard Silver

Richard Silver would be a good photographer to look at if I decided to follow the route of looking at day and night. His images have a sort of photo joiner feel to them and this is an idea which I would like to take forward into my own work, regardless of the topic. I like this as an idea as it is effective and clearly presents the idea of the passing of time. I also like how his images appear quite natural and do not look over edited. Below shows some examples of his work.

Tom Hussey

Tom Hussey would be an inspirational photographer to look at if I were to explore the topic of age and decay. I really like the idea of reflections which show two different perspectives of an individual. From looking at these images, I have had another idea which may be to combine two faces into one which would show the changes through time. I like the idea and also feel that this sort of theme could work with things like flowers, for example, taking photos of a seed and a plant, although these ideas would require more thought. However, I do really like the idea of the reflections depicting individuals younger selves. Below shows some examples of his work.
