Print Techniques

Print Techniques

Black and White

This image was put in black and white for one of the print techniques. I like this technique as it stops the audience looking at other elements such as colour and instead, focuses the eye on the actual image and what it shows. I also like how it can be used to show mood and give a slightly unnerving or ghostly feel to an image.

Duotone

This image shows duotone. For this particular image, I used blue and pink. I like the outcome and like the way that the image has a slightly purple tint. This technique is effective to tell a story through the use of colours.

Repetition

Although not strictly repetition, this image shows a similar concept. It shows separate images and has been a useful technique in the passing of time topic as I have used it on multiple occasions in order to present to the audience a change in time and in some cases, like the one above, tell a sort of story.

Selective Colour

Selective colour is a useful technique when trying to draw attention to one area of an image or to show the vibrancy of colours. In this particular image, the tops are selectively coloured in order to make them stand out while the background is in black and white. I like the outcomes of selective colour as they can be used in order to make the image more effective and also allow the photographer to alter the point of which the audience's eyes are drawn to.

Soft Focus

Soft focus is often used on portraits, but in the instance above, I feel that it still has served a purpose to make the image better. I like the outcome and feel that it has helped to give the image a glowing like quality and has also brightened the colours and given the figures a more ghostly appearance.

Liquify

The liquify tool can be used to give an image a slightly alternate and original look. In this image, I used the liquify tool in order to distort the image and give it a slightly abstract look by making the faces smaller and the ribbons, hands and body larger and more distorted. This therefore allows one to create original and alternative images.
