Artist Research - Kang Seon Jun

Kang Seon Jun

Kang Seon Jun is a photographer who explores movement during a set period of time. Like many of the other photographers I have researched, Kang Seon Jun uses long exposure photography in order to make the image show multiple movements. I like this element of the photographs as they look very effective and present the topic well.

This image is very effective as it clearly shows movement during a set period of time. I really like the element of light and dark within the image as it makes the image look more effective. I also like the movement as it looks very effective when shot with the long exposure. The photograph clearly shows an element of time passing and for this reason, I think that the image is very interesting and effective.

This image is very similar to the one above. I really like how the woman's body is still in the image so does not show any movement but she moved her arms so it looks as though she has multiple arms in the image. This looks very effective and I really like how the image is quite dark but the woman is lit as this creates a slightly mysterious feel to the image.

This image is more simplistic as it actually shows two people, but because of the lighting, it looks as though it is presenting two movements by one person. This is because of the dark and light contrast within the image.

I really like this image as it shows movement. It shows someone jumping but due to the use of long exposure, you are able to see the figures position before he jumped. I like the element of the dust which is in this image as it helps to show the aspect of time as well as the sharpness of the image.

I really like this image due to the different movements which can be seen in the single image. I also like how in this image the figure is wearing bright clothing as this makes the image more effective and attractive to the audience. This effect is created by the use of long exposure.

Influence -
These images have influenced me by the use of the long exposure. Many of the photographers I have researched have used this to show the passing of time and motion but this photographer uses the technique more precisely which I think looks very effective. This work has also influenced me due to the use of dark and light which contrasts well in order to create a slightly mysterious feel in the images.

Summary -
Overall, I really like the images and feel that they have influenced my work very well. I like the idea of the dance element and think that the idea of the light and dark looks very effective and gives off a mysterious feel. I will try to adopt some of the techniques which this photographer uses such as the use of dark and light and will try to use the long exposure in my own work in order to present the passing of time in the form of movement.
