Shoot 5 - Work Record

Shoot 5 - Work Record

Date of Shoot -
8th March 2016

Plans for the shoot -
I plan to capture the passing of time with the use of long exposure. I plan to carry out this shoot in the studio with the use of a brightly coloured backdrop like pink or blue. I will get my subject to move in particular ways in order to effectively show the movements in a set amount of time. I will also have my camera on aperture priority mode so that I could get a slower shutter speed.

What I hoped to achieve -
I hoped to achieve a style of image which combined both the styles of Jesus Chapa-Malacara and also Kang Seon Jun. I also hoped to create images which presented multiple frames of the movement of the figure. I also hoped that my images would present to passing of time quite clearly due to the multiple movements which were shown to happen in the set period of time.

What I actually achieved -
I feel my shoot went well and thought that some of the images produced were effective at showing the passing of time. I like the vibrant colours which were shown in my images and also like the ghostly effect which was created. I had my camera on aperture priority mode and had my shutter speed at 20 seconds. Although this was a long shutter speed, I feel this was needed and any problems were eliminated by the use of the tripod. To capture the key movements of the figure, I set up the studio so I flashed the lights intermittently during the 20 second movement. This allowed me to capture key parts of the movement in my image. Although it took me a little while to get the correct camera settings and set up to achieve effective images, I feel that in the end, the images produced were interesting and related well to the topic of the passing of time. Below shows two of my images from the shoot.

This is one of my favourite images from the shoot. I really like the way that multiple stages of the movement have been captured as I feel this helps to make the topic clearer. I also think that this idea could be developed further as it the image could be thought to represent a clock with the figures arms representing the clock hands. I also like the editing of this image which was done on photoshop as it helps to make the background pink more vibrant and also gives the figure a sort of glow to it. I also like the image as the figure looks rather ghostly which I think helps to make the image look more effective and interesting.

This is an image from my shoot which I don't really like. I think that it is quite dull and the long exposure effect did not work so well here. I think the image would have been better if the figures had been bolder and also think that the image is not so interesting as the figure's movement is quite boring compared to some of the others. I tried to edit the image using photoshop to make it look more effective but it still didn't look effective.

What I plan to do next (progression) -
Next time I shoot, I plan to shoot people throwing a ball to each other using the same long exposure technique as I think this could look very effective. I have not yet decided whether to shoot this in the studio or out on location. However, whatever I do, I think that I will be able to perfect my camera settings more easily this time due to the practise that I have had during this shoot.
