Connecting Essay

This image was taken by the photographer, Alexey Titarenko. I like the way that the people in the image appear ghostly and fluid like due to the use of long exposure. I also like that the whole image is in black and white as this creates a sense of mystery within the image. I also like how the image is taken in a deserted setting as this helps to re-enforce the ghostly feeling of the image. The image shows the passing of time well due to the use of the long exposure used.

My Photograph

This image was taken by me during one of my shoots. I really like the outcome and think that it shows the passing of time well due to the long exposure used to create the image. I used a 1.5 second shutter speed to achieve this outcome. I like how the image is edited as it gives the image a more ghostly and mysterious feel. In addition to this, it could be thought to add interest as it is thought provoking for the audience. In addition, I really like the location of the shoot as this adds to the sense of mystery.

The Connection

Although the two images are not 100% identical, they share many similar qualities. Firstly, they both show a ghostly element to them, mainly due to the black and white which is present in both of the images. Secondly, the figures not only look ghostly, but also slightly fluid like which clearly shows the use of long exposure. In addition to this, they are both shot in seemingly deserted locations which therefore make the images seem more mysterious. They also both show the passing of time well as they use long exposure and show the movement which has occurred during a set period of time. Overall, I like both of the images and feel they are rather similar. This is likely to be due to the fact that I used Alexey Titarenko as inspiration when shooting and editing the image which is my photograph.
