Shoot 8 - Work Record

Shoot 8 - Work Record

Date of Shoot -
21st March 2016

Plans for the shoot -
My plan for the shoot was simple. It was to take photographs of people walking using long exposure. I wanted to shoot this in a countryside like setting which looked empty and deserted as I thought that this would look most effective if I chose to adopt and experiment with the style of Alexey Titarenko.

What I hoped to achieve -
I hoped to achieve a series of images which were interesting and similar to the style of Alexey Titarenko. I also hoped to achieve images which showed variation and were not all the same as one another. I also hoped that I would be able to edit these images on Photoshop to make them look slightly mysterious and ghostly in order to make them similar to Titarenko's.

What I actually achieved -
I was successful in my plans for the shoot and managed to capture and create some successful images. It was harder than I thought shooting on location as to begin with, many of my images were over exposed. However, as I progressed in the shoot, I found that I was able to limit this effect by having my camera on aperture priority mode with a shutter speed of around 1 to 1.5 seconds. This helped to make the images less over exposed and also helped to correct the shutter speed based on the light intensity. I edited my images on Photoshop, giving the figures a feathered black and white filter to make them appear ghostly. I thought that this was a slight twist on the style of Alexey Titarenko and thought my outcomes were very successful. Below shows two of my images from the shoot.

This is my favourite image from the shoot. I feel that it is effectively edited on Photoshop and like the use of the selective black and white as this gives a ghostly feel to the figure. Therefore, this portrays the mood which I was hoping to present with the shoot and also links to the work of Alexey Titarenko, who I took inspiration from.

This is my least favourite image from the shoot. This is because it is overly exposed and also, you are only able to see a little bit of the person which therefore leads to the image being boring with no clear subject. It was an image which was taken very early on in the shoot and although this one was unsuccessful, I feel that it helped me to perfect my camera settings and therefore capture some more successful and effective images.

What I plan to do next (progression) -

For my next shoot, I plan to experiment with the long exposure on location and hope to base the next shoot around the movement of animals. This way, I feel that I could link back to my earlier inspiration, Eadweard Muybridge. I hope that this will be successful and also hope that I will be able to master the use of the long exposure on location and avoid over exposed images. I think this idea for my following shoots would also help me to create some more fun and attractive images which would grab the audience's attention.
