Shoot 7 - Work Record

Shoot 7 - Work Record

Date of Shoot -
24th March 2016

Plans for the shoot -
I plan to shoot in the studio using long exposure. I hope to use a black or white background and have a person waving colourful ribbons around. Hopefully this will link to the light trails shoot which I did earlier and also will show trails of colour by the use of long exposure. This will be an alternative to photographing typical movement throughout time. It is likely that I will use a slow shutter speed of around 6 to 10 seconds which is what I have used in my previous shoots in the studio.

What I hoped to achieve -

I hoped to achieve a series of images which show colourful trials which are caused by the colourful ribbons and also either a black or white background. I also hoped that my images would show a similar look to the light trails shoot which I did previously and therefore that shoot and this shoot would link together quite well. I also hope to perfect my camera settings for my third shoot involving long exposure in the studio in order to allow me to produce effective and successful images.

What I actually achieved -
I feel that I managed to produce a successful series of images which showed long exposure involving movement with ribbons in the studio. I liked the outcome of the shoot and think that the editing process helped to make the images more effective. Overall, I liked using the black background and thought that it helped to bring out the bright colours of the ribbons which were the main focus point of the shoot. Below shows two images from my shoot.

This was my favourite image from the shoot. I really like how you are ale to see the movement of the ribbon but also the person. I like how you are able to see approximately three versions of the persons face, all which show different emotions. For this reason, I feel that the image is not only successful at showing how the ribbons have moved during a set period of time, but also how the person has changed in that time. I also like the editing of the image as it has helped to make the image more bold, striking and eye-catching for the audience.

This was my least favourite image from the shoot. I feel that it is very plain and quite boring. I don't like how you are unable to see the figure responsible for the ribbon movement as it makes the image too ambiguous and random. I also feel the image is quite dull in its colours and is not framed very well.

What I plan to do next (progression) -

For my next shoot, I am planning a location shoot which will link to Alexey Titarenko and his style of exploring the passing of time. I hope to use the black and white filter on Photoshop in attempt to create inspired images. I will continue using the long exposure technique as I feel that it is working well and I am achieving some successful shots using it. However, in my next few shoots, I will try to venture out of the studio in attempt to capture some more natural and perhaps more interesting images in the process.
